Aquarium Specialty began as an interest more than 17 years ago when I graduated from College with a degree in Biology. My first job found me in Richmond, VA and within one month of receiving my first measly paycheck. I trekked out and bought a 55-gallon salt water fish tank, 2″ by 4″ stand and some starter fish (under gravel sold separately). After the tank was cycled, I picked up a maroon clown and a yellow tang. Within 4 months I realized that a fish only tank wasn’t going to be enough, so I began learning more about how to keep corals alive in captivity. Like a lot of newbies, I started with green star polyps, leather corals and mushrooms. About twelve moves later, I found my wife-to-be in Charlotte, North Carolina. We picked up our things (two 55-gallon tanks, livestock and water) and moved to the hottest place on the planet, Columbia, South Carolina (or so it seems). Over the years, the tanks seemed to propagate much like the corals. From the hobby grew a personal passion and later, a business. Aquarium Specialty is committed to the salt water aquarium enthusiast and your success. Please contact us if you have any questions. We are here to help. We would love to hear your comments and feedback. If you have any special requests then let us know. We will try our best to accommodate you. Sincerely, Scott Groseclose

The Abyss DVR is an autonomous device from Planctonite that allows the hobbyist to record underwater activity in their aquarium. No longer do you have to deal with reflections off the glass, or shooting directly straight on so that the image is not distorted, Abyss DVR will take care of everything for you. This DVR camera will actually attach to your aquarium with a magnet. The unit offers 2 hours of internal memory recording time and is controlled by a RECORD and STOP buttons. Once you are done, a mini-USB 2.0 will connect the Abyss to your PC or Mac, and an AVI file can easily be transfered and viewed, without any compatibility issues.
Want more? Ok. With the help of the included accessories, you may also take this little gadget snorkeling or diving. Simply attach the unit to your goggles and you can capture your underwater experience up to 10 meters. Not enough? Alright…how about taking the Abyss DVR with you skiing, skydiving, skateboarding or on any other extreme sport venture you can think of. The possibilities are endless.

Reef Tools sponsor Aquarium Specialty has just reserved the rights to distribute aquarium products from Planctonite, a Spanish company. Planctonite offers many popular products, from Calcium Reactors, frag holders and underwater photo tubes, to name a few. Probably their most intriguing product to date are the skimmer Sweeper line.
The Sweeper, is a motorized device, which will clean the inside of your skimmer neck. Over time, build up of skimmate on the neck, can negatively effect skimmer performance. All Sweeper models use a rubber brush to clean the neck, however the V2.0 Plus model also comes equipped with submersible pump, that can rinse the collection cup with fresh water (which of course should only be used on skimmers with a drain tube). This feature can be switched on/off.
Another nice feature about the Sweeper, is that it can be attached to a controller (or a simple timer), and therefore be set to turn on for a few minutes every hour or so.
