Toronto shop allegedly vandalized, 700 fish and 200 corals dead

Posted on Thursday, March 4th, 2010 at 6:33 pm by

Customers alerted store owners to a “bleach-like” smell coming from the back room of Indoor Jungle, a five month old Scarborough pet store. The staff went on to discover dead fish and corals in what looked like “an act of vandalism and animal cruelty”, store manager Navid Azar said.

Between 3-400 saltwater fish and 400 freshwater fish were dead by 8 p.m. Wed evening, with “more dying by the hour”. No equipment malfunction was found, and the owners believe someone was targeting their store. Toronto police has an ongoing investigation at this time. Toronto Fire was on scene to ensure the cause of this act was not hazardous to humans. No hazardous chemicals were found, and unfortunately, no witnesses or surveillance are available.

A member of the store staff told Reef Tools that this is a “sad day”, but that they are going to move forward and restock. Good luck Indoor Jungle.
