I mean height. Like, the aquarium wont even attempt to be able to fit under it. And i was thinking towards a used 120 gallon also. Im just going to need some more live rock
and yes, the sand incident really got me.. i am not in a hurry, but i would like to have a plan to work towards! So, lets get a plan here. A used 120 with a stand, a 40g breeder for a sump... heres where the rubber meets the road for me. Ive always been confused on the whole 100,000 different ways to make a sump. So what would i need to lean towards? Do i need a refugium?

Sumps can be very simple or complex and sometimes its your experience level when I had my 55g running I had very simple setup skimmer section 1 baffle refugium 1 baffle and return...never had to many problems other then keeping a good water level throughout....now I still run a sumple design but I have 3 baffles seperating each section...you can see my build in the member tank section...took plenty of pics lol. Personally I think refugiums are a must in a reef system but that's just my opinion...its great for nutrient export and for creating food for corals and fish...also I would not build a sump until you have your tank since its your first build and you need to figure out how much water flows back into the sump in a power outage

Okay, well, I need to be in search for a 120g with a stand. Whats cheaper? buy a sump, or build one?

Probably building a sump is cheaper generally each baffle you can pic up at lowes and starts at around $2 per baffle just make sure to give them the measurements and have them cut it for you and if you see the $1 per gallon it will be much cheaper...waiting for that sale to pick up a 40B to use as a frag tank for my self lol

I love the build part of it all! I spent more than 6 months buying and building all the pieces for my 2nd tank (65 gallon). So much fun, but one regret: skimping on some parts of the build. If I did it all over again, I would have just have bought the better pieces, like an MP40 instead of 6 different powerheads now. My advice, take it slow, plan it out and buy the right pieces the first time even if it costs more money up front (you'll only replace it later on).
