Yellow Tang

Posted on Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 at 12:30 am by

The Yellow Tang, Zebrasoma flavescens, is one of the most identifiable saltwater fish around. A staple in many reef tanks, this brilliant yellow, disk-shaped herbivore, is a very active swimmer who is sure to stand out. A very hardy fish, the Yellow Tang will be a wonderful member of a community reef tank. Commonly kept singly, this Tang will usually act aggressively towards other members of it’s own species, and sometimes, Tangs in general. Also known as the Yellow Sailfin Tang, this fish will do best in tanks of 100 gallons providing ample swimming room and flow.

The Yellow Tang is a voracious algae eater, and will do more than it’s share of clean-up duty  of many of the nuisance algae prevalent in reef tanks. Supplementing the Yellow Tang’s diet with seaweed and algae sheets will contribute to strengthening it’s immune system and health.
